All 14 schools across Victorious Academies Trust came together in a joyful and respectful celebration to mark VE Day, commemorating the end of the Second World War in Europe.
Pupils took part in a variety of creative and respectful activities that helped them understand the significance of the day and celebrate it together.
Here is a snapshot of the wonderful ways some of our schools marked this special occasion:
At Discovery Academy, Hattersley, pupils dressed in red, white and blue for a day of themed activities and a lively street party lunch. EYFS and KS1 explored wartime life through songs and artefacts, while KS2 reflected on bravery, created silhouette artwork and learnt how music brought hope during the war. The school also raised funds for The Veterans Charity.
- At Aldwyn Primary, Audenshaw, pupils spent the day immersed in the spirit of the 1940s. After learning about WWII and the significance of VE Day, they made traditional jam butties and gathered for a joyful whole-school picnic dressed in patriotic colours.
- Poplar Street Primary, Audenshaw hosted a fantastic VE Day fun day, filled with traditional games, outdoor activities and picnic lunches. Pupils came dressed in red, white and blue, celebrating the day with laughter and a strong sense of community, while learning about the importance of peace and remembrance.
- Wild Bank Primary, Stalybridge celebrated with themed learning, red, white and blue outfits and a whole-school picnic on the field, creating a festive and reflective atmosphere.
- At Pinfold Primary, Hattersley, the day began with a two-minute silence held facing the Hyde War Memorial on Werneth Low. Pupils took part in a range of creative activities, including bunting and flag making, with older pupils helping younger classes to prepare afternoon tea. The highlight of the day was a spectacular Spitfire flyover.
- Gamesley Primary, Glossop marked the occasion with a special assembly, themed lunches and a singalong in the playground, bringing the whole school together in celebration.
- At St Anne’s Primary, Denton, the school hosted “Proms in the Playground”, afternoon tea on the lawn and traditional wartime games. The day was a lively and engaging way to bring the past to life.
From assemblies and picnics to flyovers and wartime music, VE Day was marked across Victorious Academies Trust with a rich blend of education, remembrance and celebration. We are incredibly proud of all our schools for embracing the day with such enthusiasm, creativity and respect.
