Organisations across Tameside are working together to help make the borough a better place to live, work and visit.
Responsive to feedback from residents, the partnership work has developed the Borough Strategy 2026-30. The strategy sets the shared vision of Tameside Together: A great place for all.
Set to deliver the core priorities of People, Place and Prosperity, this partnership strategy will support joint working to tackle deprivation and inequality, improve public health, protect the environment, and deliver targeted and sustainable investment and regeneration.
The first milestone has been achieved with its approval at Tameside Council’s Full Council meeting on Tuesday (14 July).
Plans are now progressing at pace to finalise the Tameside Together Partnership that will oversee the strategy’s implementation and a launch event that will bring stakeholders together. The partnership includes Tameside Council, health services, Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, education providers, housing providers, the VCFSE sector and businesses.
The strategy reflects the challenges Tameside faces but also sets out the opportunities to work together to create a fairer, healthier and more prosperous Tameside.
Tameside Council Executive Leader Councillor Eleanor Wills said: “The Borough Strategy 2026-30 unites public services, voluntary and community organisations, businesses and residents to work together to improve outcomes for everyone.
“Through substantial investment, regeneration attracting new and innovative businesses, and transformed services and facilities, Tameside is being redefined as a great place to live, work and visit – with its growth set to accelerate over the next four years.
“I’m delighted that the Borough Strategy has been approved by our councillors and I’m looking forward to the launch event and working with partners and residents to transform Tameside together.”
The Borough Strategy is the culmination of a series of consultation and engagement events that include: nine ‘Cabinet in the Community’ public meetings; councillor engagement sessions; Neighbourhood Forums; two Partnership Engagement Network conferences; two Tameside Equalities Together conferences; 13 community meetings with a focus on young people, religious groups, homelessness, disabilities, carers, neurodiversity and others; a survey; and a range of existing engagement data sources.
It has been developed alongside Tameside’s Council Plan, which sets out the council's functions, role and priorities in supporting the Borough Strategy’s delivery. The Council Plan 2026–2030 can be viewed at www.tameside.gov.uk/councilplan
