Tameside Youth Drama Group celebrate summer show success

The production was a magical success and this week the group held their traditional awards event to reward and thank all the young people involved.

Founders Award - Grace Lonie.

Director’s Award - June Moore.

The Reporter Award - Jorgie-Leigh Dodd and Freddie Shaw.

Certificates of Merit - Ava Evans, Ned Evans, Greta Gibson, Michael Brickell, Poppy Adamson, Erin Kay, June Moore, Bella-Rose Taylor.

But if you missed the show, don’t worry, you won’t have to wait until the group’s panto production next year to see them again.

For TYDG is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year with a special showcase coming to Hyde Festival Theatre this September.

The ‘Variety Celebration’ show will be staged at the theatre on Saturday, September 19 from 7pm to mark 40 years of performance, friendship, creativity and community. Tickets are on sale now from from https://www.sparksem.co.uk/

Expect a variety of acts and plenty of entertainment as the group celebrates its beginnings in 1986 in Audenshaw, having originally been founded by the late Dennis and Jean Nash to provide something for young people to do, helping children gain skills and confidence.

Over the past 40 years many former members have gone on to successful careers in theatre, dance, acting, technical production and costume design.

Today the group continues to go from strength to strength, and is led by a dedicated team of volunteers, with several of the present leaders being previous members themselves, bringing with them many years of teaching and performance experience.

Principal Rachel Bunting says: “Our committee, leaders, stage crew and helpers all volunteer their time, allowing us to keep membership and weekly fees affordable and accessible to families from all backgrounds.”

The inclusive group for young people aged six to 18 provides a safe, supportive environment to develop confidence, creativity and lifelong friendships and meets weekly at Rayner Stephens High School in Dukinfield.

All leaders and helpers are DBS checked, First Aid and Safeguarding trained and the group welcomes new members in September and January.
