Victorious Academies Trust celebrates World Book Day

A Tameside multi-academy trust participated in World Book Day activities to share their love for reading.

Victorious Academies Trust was established in 2018 and currently comprises 13 primary academies spread across the borough, with 11 fully converted and two associate schools.

At Wild Bank Primary in Stalybridge, students took part in a variety of activities to celebrate the annual charity event, including decorating spoons as book characters.

They also hosted their first Reading Together session, inviting parents to join them in school to share a book with their child, which they branded "a huge success".

At Arundale Primary in Hyde, Lyndhurst Community Primary in Dukinfield and Buckton Vale Primary in Stalybridge, pupils enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book characters and sharing their books with their class.

At Discovery Academy in Hattersley, they had a virtual visit from Emily Jane Clark, author of the Beasts of Knobbly Bottom, where the children talked about being creative and coming up with new ideas for different worlds and creatures.

At Gamesley Primary & Early Excellence Centre in Glossop pupils completed book reviews and designed bookplates.

They said they were very grateful to Dark Peak Books & Gifts who went into school to ensure every child was able to exchange their World Book Day token for a free book.

At Pinfold Primary in Hattersley pupils celebrated by either wearing their pyjamas or dressing as a book character. The focus was on reading for pleasure and pupils across the school enjoyed activities including a creative session with an illustrator and listened to a Polish story about Harry Potter.

In Year 5 at Poplar Street Primary in Audenshaw pupils had lots of fun in their ‘Star Books’ Cafe, swapping books and sharing thoughts about new books. They also enjoyed a performance of The Wolves in the Walls.

At Aldwyn Primary in Audenshaw, pupils had a great day celebrating authors, illustrators, books and the love of reading, adding that the children all looked "fantastic" in their book character costumes.

At Greenside Primary in Droylsden and Yew Tree Primary in Dukinfield pupils were treated by their kitchen staff to amazing book themed menus and as well as pupils dressing up as their favourite book characters, staff had brilliant outfits too.

At Holden Clough Primary in Ashton-under-Lyne, pupils visited the library at Great Academy where they created their own trump cards, based on some of their favourite book characters.

At Inspire Academy in Ashton-under-Lyne as well as all pupils dressing up as their favourite characters, Reception pupils used their computing skills on an app to make talking book covers.

Across the trust, English Leads at all schools had been planning for all classes to create their own dioramas of their class book.

Classes used shoe boxes as the setting, decorating and adding characters from their story.

The Trust also ran a Reading for Pleasure competition for staff to take photos of themselves reading, some were in more unusual places than others and across the week, they shared videos of staff talking about their favourite books from both their childhood and current books they are reading.
