Greater Manchester Police welcomes Pride 2026

Thousands of people are set to flock to the city centre this weekend for the return of Manchester Pride.

Over the bank holiday weekend from Friday, August 28 – Monday August 31, vibrant celebrations and performances will be taking place throughout the area, and officers will be on hand to support the events, to ensure everyone can get involved safely. 

Chief Superintendent Dave Meeney, District Commander for GMP's City of Manchester Division, said: “We’re looking forward to supporting the annual Manchester Pride festival. Pride weekend is a time of celebration, education, and embracing diversity within our friendly and inclusive city.

“There will be an increased presence of police officers around the city centre during all festivities, day and night, engaging with members of the public and providing reassurance. 

“Officers will be on hand if needed and ready to respond to any incidents that may arise. Please feel free to chat to them.

“Manchester hosts some of the country’s largest gatherings and events, and we are well-versed in working with partners and providing resources and expertise to support community safety.  

“We’re expecting a busy weekend so if you’re attending, please remember to have fun, stay safe, and look out for each other.

“If you see something that doesn’t look or feel right, please trust your instincts and bring it to the attention of an officer or a steward. You can also dial 101 or report an incident online via www.gmp.police.uk 

“In an emergency, always dial 999.”

Pride is a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and those attending should be able to do so free from discrimination, abuse, or fear. There will be no tolerance of hate crime or criminality of any kind. Police urge anyone who is a victim or witness to speak to them immediately so action can be taken.
