Local MP Debbie Abrahams has praised First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) after she visited the housing association's latest £4.5 million development in Hathershaw.

The Oldham East and Saddleworth MP was shown around the Belgrave and Thatcher Streets site by FCHO staff and the developers Arca Construct last Friday.

She went inside some of the 19 eco-friendly houses, built on a former garage, that will soon have new tenants as the project nears completion.

“I would like to congratulate all involved in this development,” she said. “It is so, so impressive and it's going to make so many families happy.

“This is a magnificent development, and I'm so impressed with what First Choice Homes is doing. For those people who are going to move into one of these houses, you are very, very lucky."

She added: “This is what we need in Oldham. It gives families the opportunity to build their lives. If you don't have a good home or a stable home, then it makes things harder. So well done.”

Construction manager Jamie Smith added: “We thank Debbie Abrahams for taking the time to visit and for her interest, insight and knowledge of the housing situation here in Oldham.

“It’s important FCHO works closely with all of our elected representatives to ensure we can play our part in building the quality homes the town needs.”

Arca has constructed 16 three-beds in Belgrave Road and a further three two-beds in neighbouring Thatcher Street.

All have solar panels and EV charging points and achieve an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) B rating.

The scheme received £1.07m from Homes England and a further £285,000 from the Brownfield Housing Fund grant via the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
