Mossley charity shop to host ‘After Shift Thrift’ in collaboration with local groups

Homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley will open its doors, after hours, for an evening of thrifting, thinking and getting creative.

On Thursday 7 May, Emmaus Mossley will welcome both new and existing supporters to shop all things retro, collectable and eclectic. The charity’s Secondhand Superstore will feature cherry-picked pre-loved clothing, collectable treasures, freshly stocked media and all things weird and wonderful in-between.

Emmaus Mossley empowers people to overcome homelessness for good. From its Longlands Mill base in Mossley, the charity provides people with the foundation of a home and life-changing tailored support.

Working in collaboration with Manchester-based collective Future Fashion Fair, the evening will also feature an open mic discussion for supporters to join in, learn more and share their ideas over. The discussion point at hand will be: ‘circular conversations: how can we make reuse more mainstream?’

Molly Ridgway, Retail Assistant at Emmaus Mossley and organiser of the event, said: “The evening will be a great opportunity to try something new, learn something new, and find plenty of secondhand treasures! Opening outside of our regular retail hours means that we can provide the Emmaus experience to supporters who can’t always make it during the day.”

“Welcoming local organisations such as Future Fashion Fair and Notorious Screen Printing to get involved is so important. These partners help to expand our community and bring a mix of people together, all whilst working together to reduce waste, spread awareness and have fun along the way.”

Joe Mountain, director and founder of Future Fashion Fair, added: “Spaces like Emmaus show that reuse is thriving in local regions, rooted in community, and real social value. At Future Fashion Fair, we’re working to make reuse more visible, accessible and ultimately more mainstream, and partnering with Emmaus we hope to spark an engaging conversation.”

The Social Studio, a monthly creative workshop held at Emmaus Mossley, will also be running alongside the shopping event. The session will be hosted by Millie, from Notorious Screen Printing, and attendees will be able to create and screen-print a design on secondhand T-shirts.

The Emmaus After Shift Thrift will take place on Thursday 7 May, 6:30pm-8:30pm. The event is welcome to all and free to attend. All funds raised from the Emmaus After Shift Thrift will go towards sustaining the charity and the support provided to Emmaus residents.
