Local charity celebrates its volunteers

Local charity LEAP have held their annual volunteer celebration event at the St Ann's Centre in Ashton.

More than 60 people attended the event, including the Civic Mayor Cllr Mike Glover and local councillors, to recognise the work of the charity, made possible by valued volunteers and staff.

The CEO of the charity, Jo Parry-Gee, spoke about the amazing work that the volunteers do and thanked everyone for bringing hope and making a difference, to the lives of children and adults that the charity works with.

Jo also paid tribute to Tony Berry, a trustee of the charity for over 17 years, who sadly passed away in November last year.

To honour Tony’s memory, LEAP have introduced the Tony Berry Award for Outstanding Volunteering, which was presented to Norman Haynes and the Read for Life volunteers by Tony’s daughter, Katie.

Cllr Joyce Bowerman, Chair of the LEAP Trustee Board, presented further awards to more than 40 volunteers, followed by live music, dancing and a delicious hot buffet.
