Labour councillors take to the water for good causes

Tameside's Labour team took to the water to raise funds for various good causes.

Ashton Waterloo Councillor Sangita Patel came up with the initiative, which doubled as a team-building event and fundraiser.

The group took to the water at Stamford Park Boating Lake on the Ashton / Stalybridge border to stage a number of races.

But while an opportunity to come together and discuss ideas, they also raised funds for Willow Wood Hospice and the Civic Mayor of Tameside’s charities.

Civic Mayor Cllr Mike Glover’s chosen charities this year are Greater Manchester Asbestos Victims Support Group, The Christie Charity, Smallshaw Tenants and Residents Association and the Anthony Seddon Fund.

In total, almost £600 was raised from the event, also attended by Ambulance Line, Greater Manchester Police and Willow Wood Hospice.

Cllr Patel explained: “The idea was to bring councillors together from each ward along with other local party members.

“The event was well supported and very successful as an opportunity to come together away from work and share ideas and was also a way of raising money for good causes.”

She thanked everyone who took part and donated to the charities and said the event had been so successful, that they would look at holding similar events in the future around the borough.
