Oldham man missing sadly found dead in car collision

Christopher Neary has sadly passed away.

Officers are investigating after a man was sadly found dead in a vehicle in the Oldham area on Monday evening (1 June).

Emergency services were alerted to a car that is believed to have left the carriageway just off Lees New Road, near to the junction of Abbey Hills Road at around 7.30pm.

Sadly, a man was discovered in the vehicle. He has since been identified as Christopher Neary, aged 58.

Christopher had been reported missing by his family last week, and who have now asked for privacy as they come to terms with the loss of their loved one.

Police are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of the crash, including exactly when the collision occurred and its causes.

As enquiries continue, police are asking anyone with any information relating to the collision, or the events leading up to it, to please get in touch with us.

This includes anyone who might have seen something or has any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area that they can share - including from around 6.50pm on Thursday, May 28 until the evening of Monday, June 1.

Detective Inspector Clare Harrison, from GMP's Oldham district, said: “Firstly, I want to extend my condolences to Christopher’s family and friends – this is a tragic outcome and I want to ensure that we provide them with the answers they deserve.

“We are working hard to establish the circumstances that led to his death – including his movements in the days preceding, and in which he was reported missing, as well as the exact cause of the collision.

“If anyone has any information they can share, I would urge them to do so. Even the smallest amount of detail could greatly benefit our investigation.”
