TransPennine Express (TPE) is rolling out one of its biggest-ever security upgrades, with more than 600 new high-definition cameras being installed across its stations.
The £4.4 million investment will deliver sharper images, wider coverage, and faster access to footage - helping staff and police respond to incidents more effectively and giving customers extra peace of mind.
At the heart of the programme is a new monitoring system (pictured below) that detects suspicious movement outside operating hours. The innovation ensures stations will be better protected at all hours.

Chris Nutton, Major Projects Director for TPE, said: “The safety and wellbeing of our customers and colleagues is incredibly important to us. CCTV doesn’t just deter bad behaviour; it provides the evidence that brings offenders to justice.”
All 19 TPE-managed stations are set to have the new system up and running by Spring 2026.
Chris added: “Stations will be safer places thanks to these improvements. We’re proud to be investing in technology that protects our people and gives customers peace of mind.”
Destinations served by TransPennine Express include Greenfied, Stalybridge and Mossley.
The CCTV upgrades are for TPE managed stations- so Stalybridge will be getting these upgrades too by Spring 2026.
Greenfield and Mossley are managed by Northern trains.
