Four new properties have been handed over to First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) at Fitton Hill - the start of a summer of new homes for social rent and shared ownership to complete at the site.
The three-bedroom houses for social rent were completed last month, and the housing association is taking another four this week – this time two social rent three beds and two shared ownership four beds.
They are among the 29 affordable homes being built for FCHO by Vistry on the former school site at Rosary Road.
After that, three to four houses will be handed over every week until all 29 three and four-bedroom homes are with FCHO by mid-July.
“We are really pleased to see these high-quality, energy efficient family homes coming online for our customers in Fitton Hill this summer,” said FCHO executive director of corporate services and deputy chief executive Andy Ewart.
“This initial batch of homes is part of a larger 101 property, £15.7 million purchase by FCHO from Vistry at two parcels of land off Rosary Road - one the former Fitton Hill Secondary Modern School and another nearby greenfield site.”
He added: “This major investment is FCHO’s second biggest ever development in cash terms following the recent £20 million West Vale project in Coldhurst, and the largest ever for the number of properties.
“It also put us on track as we look to build at least 600 new homes in our communities in the coming years – many of them much-needed family homes.”
Work on the greenfield site - where FCHO is developing a further 72 rent to buy and social rent; two and three-bed homes - is underway. This is due for completion at the end of 2027.
