Commuters are being warned to expect rush hour delays for the next two weeks as temporary power cables are installed in Denton.
It is the latest phase of a three-year, £23m scheme to replace St Anne’s Road bridge, which carries traffic over the M67.
Electricity North West (ENWL) started their work on the morning of Thursday, August 29, with Hyde Road reduced to just one lane of traffic between the Nisa Local shop and the M67’s exit slip road at Junction 2.
“Two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place throughout the work,” a statement from National Highways said. “We’ll have teams on-site monitoring traffic flows to ensure signals are working as expected. However, delays are likely especially at peak times.
“We’re advising road users to allow extra time to complete journeys and would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience.”
The interim cables follow on from BT diverting its Openreach infrastructure earlier in August, and should ensure that local homes and businesses don’t suffer power cuts throughout the rest of the project.
The bridge replacement scheme, which began in January 2023, is expected to be completed in 2026.
More details of the timings of the existing bridge’s demolition are due in September.
