National Highways have released their latest update on the A57 Link Road Scheme works.
PLANT CROSSING TESTING TO START
- From mid-May 2026, they will introduce a temporary plant crossing on the A57 at Mottram Moor.
- The crossing is a short road for construction vehicles. It will allow them to move large volumes of earth and stone across the A57.
- Before it becomes operational, they will test the crossing to make sure it’s working as expected.
- This will take place from Tuesday 5th May for around one week.
- During this time, you may experience short stops of 60 seconds at the temporary traffic lights while they finalise timings.
PLANT CROSSING TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT
When the plant crossing is live from mid-May, you can expect:
- Temporary traffic lights, with short holds of between 60 and 90 seconds.
- The crossing to operate Monday to Friday (7.30am to 6pm), with occasional weekend working.
- Some minor delays, particularly at peak times.
KEEPING JOURNEYS MOVING
National Highways say they will do all they can to reduce disruption and keep traffic moving by:
- Monitoring traffic in real time using CCT.
- Working closely with Tameside Council and Transport for Greater Manchester.
- Pausing crossings if congestion builds or collisions occur.
- They will prioritise emergency vehicles at all times.
- They will maintain access to homes, businesses and local amenities throughout.
OVERNIGHT ROADWORKS AT MOTTRAM MOOR
- They will be working to make the crossing fully operational until the morning of Saturday 2nd May. During these works:
- They will use temporary traffic lights between 8pm and 6am.
- They will reduce Mottram Moor to a single lane with vehicles passing through one direction at a time.
- There'll be temporary traffic lights at the junction of Back Moor and Gun Inn
National Highways thank residents for their patience while they do this work.
