A new blue plaque is being unveiled in Glossop.

Glossop Heritage Trust’s next Blue Plaque commemorates the achievements of Glossop North End Football Club during its time in the First and Second Division of the football league.

Provided with the financial support of a local mill owner, Sir Samuel Hill-Wood, the club played alongside teams like Manchester City for one season in the First Division, before playing Second Division football until the First World War.

Glossop remains to this day the smallest town to have played at the top level of English football. The plaque records the achievement of the club and their benefactor.

The blue plaque will be unveiled at Glossop North End’s Asgard Stadium on Surrey Street, Glossop, SK13 8GG on Saturday 12th July. Gates will open at 10am and the unveiling ceremony will start at 10.30am. The event closes at 11.30am and is free to attend.
