Freemasons fill foodbank's shelves

Glossopdale Foodbank has received an extraordinary donation of more than 1,000 food and toiletry items from the Glossopdale Freemasons, organised by Paul Lee, the Lodge’s community engagement lead.

The initiative brought together contributions from lodge members as well as generous support from major brands including Heinz, Coca‑Cola, and Buxton Water. The handover was led by John Shufflebottom, the Lodge’s senior representative, who explained the inspiration behind the project.

“The Lodge’s fundraising and volunteering activities this year have developed a theme around the number 1000. All aimed to strengthen the fabric of the Glossopdale area in a quiet, practical and deeply meaningful way.  After supporting the Foodbank during their Winter Collection Days at Tesco, we felt that a drive focused on food and toiletries would be a fantastic way to make a real difference locally.”

Glossopdale Foodbank Manager Liz Kearslake expressed heartfelt thanks for the donation and highlighted how the items will be used to support people across the community.

“This donation will help massively. We’ve seen increases in both food costs and client numbers over recent months, and contributions like this help us keep our own costs down. Some items, such as bottled water, will go straight into our No‑Cook Parcels for individuals and families without access to regular cooking facilities. We are extremely grateful for the generosity shown.”

Glossopdale Foodbank continues to rely on community support to meet rising demand. If you, your workplace or your organisation would like to run a collection for them, please email: liz.glossopdalefoodbank@gmail.com
