Gamesley fans match-ready thanks to Tesco donation

Gamesley football fans can now stay dry on the sidelines, thanks to colleagues at Tesco Glossop. 

As part of Tesco Glossop Superstore’s recent store remodel, colleagues donated a trolley bay shelter and six tables and chairs to support the local community, giving the items a new lease of life through the Gamesley Community Group. 

To help shelter those dedicated matchday supporters, Gamesley Community Group gave the trolley bay to Gamesley Football Club, where it now provides much-needed cover for fans during Saturday fixtures.  

The donated tables and chairs have also given the activity room and sports hall at Gamesley Community Centre a welcomed upgrade, providing a more comfortable space for residents taking part in their regular craft and wellbeing sessions, board game groups, social gatherings and large community events.  

Anita Redfern, community champion at Tesco Glossop Superstore, said: “As we complete our store remodel, we wanted to make sure items that still had plenty of life left could be used to benefit the community. Gamesley Community Group does fantastic work supporting local residents, and we’re delighted that the tables, chairs and shelter are being put to good use.”

The store also provides ongoing support to Gamesley Community Group throughout the year, donating refreshments for community events and recently supplying suncream for this summer’s holiday camps. 

Caitlin McGraw, community centre administrator at Gamesley Community Group, said: “We’re incredibly thankful for the ongoing support from Anita and the team at Tesco Glossop Superstore. It’s lovely to see local businesses getting behind the community and helping us make improvements that benefit the people of Gamesley.” 

Gamesley Community Group is a volunteer-led charity dedicated to preserving and developing Gamesley Community Centre, providing affordable sports, health, education and activities for residents. The community centre is also home to Gamesley Football Club.
