A Christmas raffle held by the Patient Participation Group (PPG) at Simmondley Medical Practice has raised £210 for Glossop Cat Rescue, with the charity receiving its cheque at a presentation held recently.
Although the raffle took place over the festive period, the presentation was delayed until Wednesday 24th June due to unforeseen circumstances.
The annual raffle featured 14 prizes donated by patients, local business Sue's Salon and Simmondley Medical Practice, which once again generously provided two Christmas hampers. PPG members thanked everyone who bought tickets and the practice staff who helped organise and sell them.
The £210 raised was presented to Glossop Cat Rescue, which has been caring for stray and abandoned cats across the area for the past four years.
Julie and Karel from the charity attended the presentation and said:
"We'd like to express our sincere gratitude to the local community for its continued support. The generous donations we receive make it possible for us to help stray and abandoned cats throughout the area, including many that arrive with serious illnesses or injuries resulting from neglect.
"Every donation, no matter the size, helps us provide veterinary treatment, food, shelter and care, allowing us to help as many cats as possible and give them a second chance at a safe and loving home.
"Glossop Cat Rescue has now been operating for four years, and during that time we have rescued and rehomed more than 1,250 cats. This achievement would not have been possible without the kindness and generosity of our supporters, local businesses, volunteers and community groups.
"Support from organisations such as Simmondley Medical Practice PPG helps raise awareness of our work and enables us to continue helping cats in need for years to come."
The Patient Participation Group also thanked Dr Jha for supporting the raffle and donating the main prizes, Dr Parikh for drawing the winning tickets and presenting the cheque, and Assistant Practice Manager Deryn for helping to organise the event.
The PPG is an active group of patients who work alongside the practice team to support a range of initiatives and fundraising activities throughout the year.
