Emotional finish for 80-mile awareness walk

A powerful community fundraising and awareness challenge has concluded with an emotional finish line moment, after days of walking brought people together for a deeply personal cause.

The purpose of the 80-mile hike was to highlight the vital campaign for “Danielle’s Law”, whilst also raising money for Women’s Aid. Led by Jonathon Haggerty, Danielle’s brother, participants covered miles of challenging terrain over several days, finishing with an emotional welcome at Glossop Cemetery, where supporters gathered to celebrate the team’s achievement.

Reflecting on the experience, Jonathon Haggerty said:

“What an absolutely incredible week. I’ve loved every minute of it - the miles, the challenge, the laughter, and most of all the time spent with amazing friends and family.

“A huge thank you to Kimberley Haggerty, who planned the route, organised the logistics, and led from the front every single day. To my dad Geoff Haggerty and Malcolm for the support van, the water, the food and the camp setups - we couldn’t have done it without you.

“To my nephew Alfie, who stayed strong, kept spirits high and had us laughing the whole way, and to my best mate Dean Farrell for always being there and keeping the banter flowing from start to finish.

“It meant so much to join forces with Kimberley’s Law and FAITH (Families Acting for Immediate Threat Help) on the final day, and to see so many people waiting for us at the finish line was overwhelming in the best possible way.

“Thank you also human rights advocate Edwin Duggan, High Peak MP Jon Pearce and Crossroads Derbyshire for your support throughout the campaign. This week we hit 30,000 signatures on the petition and raised £1,460 for an incredible cause - Women's Aid.

“Danielle Haggerty would be truly proud of every single person who walked, supported, donated, shared, or stood with us.”

As the challenge comes to a close, the impact continues to be felt locally, with strong community support helping to turn a personal tribute into a wider movement for awareness and change.
