Dispersal Order Issued in Glossop

Police-issued Dispersal Order Map

A Dispersal Order has been issued ahead of Glossop Carnival to curb youth anti-social behaviour.

Glossop Police have announced that a dispersal order will be in effect across Glossop Town Centre this weekend.

The order, which comes into force at 9am on Saturday 5th July, will remain in place until 11:59pm on Sunday 6th July, covering the town centre and surrounding areas as indicated on the police-issued map below.

Police say the measure is a preventative response to recent incidents involving groups of youths engaging in anti-social behaviour in and around the town centre.

Sergeant Haley of the Glossop Safer Neighbourhood policing team said "The dispersal order gives us additional powers to deal with anti-social behaviour proactively so we can move on any individual we believe may be likely to cause trouble rather than waiting for it to happen. We simply cannot tolerate anti-social and nuisance behaviour."

Dispersal Orders allow officers to direct individuals to leave a designated area if they are suspected of causing, or likely to cause, harassment, alarm, or distress. Those who refuse to comply risk arrest, a fine of up to £2,500, and/or a prison sentence of up to three months.

Glossop Police are also working closely with local housing providers, High Peak Borough Council, and the Community Safety Partnership to tackle the root causes of the disorder.

Residents and carnival-goers are encouraged to report any anti-social behaviour they witness over the weekend to Derbyshire Constabulary using the 101 non-emergency number or via their online reporting tools.
