Derbyshire County Council announce cabinet changes

Derbyshire County Council leader Councillor Alan Graves.

Derbyshire County Council leader Councillor Alan Graves has announced a reshuffle of his Cabinet team, introducing several new faces and changes to a number of portfolio roles.

The changes come a year after Reform UK took control of the authority following last year’s local elections.

Councillor Graves will remain as Leader of the Council, while Councillor Stephen Reed has been appointed Deputy Leader, replacing Councillor Rob Reaney in the role.

Announcing the new line-up, Councillor Graves said the changes reflected the council’s priorities following its first year in power:

“We have been running the council for one year now and have overseen many changes which I believe will benefit the people of Derbyshire.

“The new faces on my Cabinet team will help us to take this good work forward, and the changes to some of the portfolios better reflects our focus and priorities.”

He added that the creation of a new portfolio focusing on Local Government Reorganisation and council transformation showed the authority’s commitment to future changes within local government.

Councillor Graves also thanked outgoing Cabinet members for their “hard work and commitment”.

Although some responsibilities and titles have changed, the overall number of Cabinet positions remains unchanged.

The new Cabinet line-up is:

  • Councillor Alan Graves: Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategic Leadership

  • Councillor Stephen Reed: Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Business Services

  • Councillor Paul Parkin: Cabinet Member for Local Government Reorganisation and Transformation

  • Councillor Joss Barnes: Cabinet Member for Adult Care

  • Councillor Paul Maginnis: Cabinet Member for Children and Families

  • Councillor John Lawson: Cabinet Member for Finance and Efficiency (DOGE)

  • Councillor Dan Price: Cabinet Member for Communities and Safety

  • Councillor Carol Wood: Cabinet Member for Environment

  • Councillor Charlotte Hill: Cabinet Member for Highways

  • Councillor Simon Mabbott: Cabinet Member for SEND and Education

Councillor Graves said: “I have a very strong and committed team who I know will work hard for all our residents, businesses and communities.”

The changes come into effect on Monday 11th May.
