Christmas officially arrived in Droylsden and Hyde this weekend as both town centres were transformed with dazzling lights, festive entertainment and a strong sense of community spirit.
Despite the persistent rain, hundreds of residents turned out to enjoy the celebrations, which featured live performances, fairground rides, creative festive stalls and delicious seasonal treats. The turnout showcased the resilience and enthusiasm of local families determined to kick off the Christmas season in style.
In Hyde, the lights were switched on by Nicola Horsfield, Girlguiding Ashton Division Commissioner, who was joined by Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers and fellow leaders. Their appearance added a heart-warming community touch to the evening, drawing cheers from the crowd as the town centre lit up.
Organisers expressed their gratitude to everyone who attended, praising the community for coming together despite the weather to support local performers, traders and volunteers. The festive atmosphere brought smiles to faces young and old as the countdown to Christmas officially began.
But the celebrations don’t stop here.
Residents who couldn’t make it last weekend will have more opportunities to join the festivities, with Christmas events continuing in Mossley and Hattersley next weekend:

Mossley, George Lawton Hall
