Christmas on Market Avenue set to sparkle this Saturday

Market Avenue is gearing up for a day of festive fun as the community prepares to launch its Christmas on Market Avenue celebrations this Saturday, 29 November 2025, running from 10am right through to 10pm.

The highlight of the day will be the big Christmas Lights Switch-On at 6pm, when the street will officially transform into a winter wonderland.

This year, residents and local businesses have joined forces to create a warm, welcoming space where families, friends and neighbours can come together to share the true spirit of the season. The celebrations will continue every Saturday in the run-up to Christmas, with additional midweek activities to be announced on the official page.

The launch day is filled with activities for all ages, starting bright and early:

Games Mania & Metro Majestic Pop-Up Cinema – 8 Market Avenue (10am–6pm)

Retro and vintage gaming fans can step back in time with classic consoles and arcade favourites upstairs, while film-lovers can settle in for festive screenings downstairs.

£5 all-day wristband, including access to all four films:

• 10am – A Nightmare Before Christmas
• 12pm – The Polar Express
• 2pm – How the Grinch Stole Christmas
• 4pm – Elf

Blaze Street Dance Academy – 1.15pm

Get ready for a high-energy, freestyle Christmas dance set from the talented performers at Blaze Street Dance Academy.

Kids’ Workshops – 14 Market Avenue (10am–3.30pm)

Perfect for crafty youngsters, these hands-on sessions run throughout the day:

• 10am – Crazy Christmas Tree Hats
• 11.30am – Sparkling Snowman Globes
• 1pm – Rudolph the Reindeer Crackers
• 2.30pm – Dough Christmas Tree Decorations

Kids’ Face Painting – 15 Market Avenue (10am–4pm)

Bring the magic to life with festive face designs. £3 pay on the day.

Travelling Man – 9–11 Market Avenue (10am–10pm)

Enjoy live music in the cosy, welcoming surroundings of the Travelling Man pub—a perfect place to warm up and soak in the festive atmosphere.

Tintwistle Band – 11.30am–1pm & 1.30pm–3pm

A community favourite, Tintwistle Band will fill Market Avenue with the sound of cherished Christmas carols.

“Do Your Thing” Community Choir – 5.30pm–6pm & 6.30pm–7pm

This uplifting community choir will deliver two evening performances, adding even more magic to the celebrations.

6pm – Market Avenue Lights Switch-On

The moment everyone has been waiting for! Join the crowd as Market Avenue bursts into festive colour with the official lights switch-on.
