Ashton MP Angela Rayner paid a special visit to two Tameside secondary schools as part of UK Parliament Week 2025, an annual event designed to help young people and community groups learn more about the role of Parliament and how democracy works.
Rayner spent time with pupils at Droylsden Academy and Fairfield High School for Girls, hearing about the activities they had taken part in throughout the week and answering a wide range of questions.
Reflecting on the visit, she said: “School visits are the best bit of my job and the conversations I have with young people always leaves me feeling hopeful and inspired. We discussed everything from foreign affairs and my life as an MP to mustard on burgers and the price of Freddos.”
UK Parliament Week continues to grow each year, with more than 2.5 million people across the country taking part in 2025. In Rayner’s own constituency, 27 organisations were involved, from schools to community groups.
Rayner added: “Over 2.5 million people across the country - including 27 organisations in my constituency - took part in UKPW 2025. Thank you to everyone who got involved.”
The initiative aims to encourage more young people to engage with politics, understand how decisions are made, and explore ways they can make their voices heard.
