Work is underway on upgrading a walking and cycling Bee Network route through Droylsden and Audenshaw.
The scheme at Rayner Lane connects Ashton Moss Metrolink stop on Lord Sheldon Way with the residential areas between Moorside Lane and the Snipe Retail Park.
Contractors expect the work - funded as part of the £10.3m Mayor’s Challenge Fund - to take three months to complete, while Tameside Council said a public consultation ‘raised no objections’ to the project.
Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity, Cllr Stephen Homer said: “The Rayner Lane scheme will make it easier, safer and more attractive to travel on foot or by bike, helping people to make walking and cycling their first choice for shorter journeys and to access public transport.
“Walking and cycling are healthier, greener, more sustainable travel options and this investment will help improve the environment for everyone.”
The renovation work will include resurfacing and widening the existing path, clearing vegetation and adding in new bollards and kissing gates to prevent vehicle access.
