A Denton woman has been fined after repeatedly ignoring a council order to stop playing loud music at her home.
Tameside Magistrates’ Court heard how residents living near a property on Moorfield Avenue complained to Tameside Council about persistent noise disturbance.
Following the complaints, an Environmental Health officer installed noise monitoring equipment at a nearby address. After analysing the recordings, the council served a noise abatement notice on the then occupier, Donna Keelan, requiring the disturbance to stop.
However, the court was told that the loud music continued despite the warning. Council officers subsequently witnessed breaches of the abatement notice on three separate occasions within a single week in April 2025.
Ms Keelan appeared at court on 19 December 2025, where she pleaded guilty to the offences. Magistrates fined her £120 and ordered her to pay a £48 victim surcharge, along with £50 towards prosecution costs.
Commenting on the case, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods, Cllr Laura Boyle, said prosecution was a last resort.
She added: “Prosecution is a last resort in cases such as this, but where someone ignores a noise abatement notice we will take further action.
“This is good work by our public protection team and reflects our commitment to using our regulatory powers to support and protect residents who are negatively impacted by the actions of others.”
The council says it will continue to take action where necessary to address noise nuisance and protect the wellbeing of local communities.
