The historic Clarence Arcade reopens with Halloween spectacular

On Saturday, October 31st, the historic Clarence Arcade in Ashton-under-Lyne reopened to the public.

To celebrate the opening of 13 new businesses, including shops, a bakery, and a bar, free entertainment was provided throughout the day. Cosplayers mingled with the crowds, while a singer performed live throughout the afternoon.

There were also props from movies and TV shows on display, including a 15-metre-tall Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters, a scare maze, and workshops for children.

Free face painting was provided, as well as a mini cinema showing Ghostbusters 1 and 2 on repeat. The latter was a nod to the Metro Majestic Cinema, also in Ashton, which is currently being renovated subject to planning.

Hundreds of people attended the newly reopened Clarence Arcade throughout the day. Work on the Arcade is set to continue, with the Halloween theme being switched to a Christmas theme through to the new year.

The Victorian shopping arcade has been given a makeover designed to bring it back to its glory days, with a green and gold colour scheme, period-inspired fittings, and communal seating with leather sofas and wingbacks.

The Clarence Arcade has been reopened by Andy Kleek as part of the wider Make Ashton Great Again initiative designed to breathe life back into the Tameside town.
