Stalybridge basked in the sun on Friday (July 10th), as hundreds of Tameside residents attended the July edition of the monthly Street Fest.
On one of the hottest days of the year so far, Tameside residents turned out in their droves for the latest edition of the Stalybridge Street Fest. With temperatures peaking in the low-30s, hundreds of people enjoyed eating, drinking, and ducking into the shade for some much-needed respite from the sun.
The July edition of the Stalybridge Street Fest took place on Friday, July 10th, with hundreds of people turning up for the occasion. And the headline which will come as no surprise to anyone is that it was a rather hot one, with temperatures peaking at 32 degrees. Regardless (or perhaps because) of the weather, Tameside residents turned up to support the event and the local businesses that took part.
A wide variety of vendors were in attendance on Armentieres Square, with many now established as ever-presents. As always, there was a wide variety of food available from around the world. There was also a dedicated drinks outlet called The Secret Garden, with local businesses such as Nonna's and Magpie's Nest helping to keep people hydrated throughout the event.
Music was provided by youngsters from Tameside Music Service, with various bands playing across the four-hour event. The musicians played a broad mix of genres, with some well-known hits interspersed with songs that some people in the crowd didn’t recognise.
Luckily, the continuing roadworks that have blighted Armentieres Square for several months now didn't impede on the occasion, with work temporarily halted in time for the event. Still, half-finished kerbstones and uneven surfaces aren't the ideal environment for an event which hundreds of people attend every month throughout the summer.
Several politicians were spotted in attendance, including Jonathan Reynolds, the MP for Stalybridge and Hyde, Eleanor Wills, the leader of Tameside Council, and Sian Astley, the Reform UK candidate for the Greater Manchester mayoral race to replace Andy Burnham.
The Stalybridge Street Fest has been running since 2021 and runs on the second Friday of every month from April through to November. The next event is due to be held on August 14, and we can only hope that the weather then is as glorious as it was this time around.
