People supported by Shared Lives, their carers and those who run the service gathered for their annual party in Stamford Park on 19 June.
Tameside Council’s Long-term Support Service host a Party in the Park annually; a chance to ‘shout about Shared Lives’ and an opportunity for people to connect and recognise the difference they make to people’s lives.
The vibrant event brought Tameside’s Shared Lives community together to enjoy food, music, and dancing, alongside a pony patch and the much-anticipated annual rounders match, where friendly competition brought plenty of laughter and team spirit.
The party took place during Shared Lives Week (15 to 21 June 2026), which celebrates the incredible people who make the Shared Lives scheme a success across the borough. The week is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on everyone involved and thank them for their commitment, compassion, and hard work.
Shared Lives creates strong relationships that help people live fulfilling and independent lives within their communities. The flexible scheme empowers adults with a range of needs to share daily life with a carer matched uniquely to them, with the same passions, interests and hobbies.
Supported adults live with or visit the carer’s home to complete daily routines and social activities. Shared Lives support can be long-term, respite or day support, and is an alternative to supported living or residential care.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Inclusivity, Cllr Jackie Lane, said: “Shared Lives Week is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the people who make the scheme so special throughout the year.
“The Party in the Park is all about coming together, having fun, and recognising the positive impact Shared Lives has on individuals, families, and our community as a whole.
“It’s fabulous to see those involved celebrated for their commitment and dedication to helping people live independently in Tameside.”
Tameside Council recruit, train, match, and support individuals to become Shared Lives Carers. No formal qualifications are expected, welcoming people from different backgrounds, with different skills and life experience.
Shared Lives Carers must be over 18 years old and live in Tameside. They must be flexible, sensitive, tolerant, and patient, with a genuine interest in supporting people.
