Nightclub worker caught on camera flytipping in street

A former Stalybridge nightclub worker has pleaded guilty to flytipping after being caught red handed on CCTV.

Tameside Magistrates’ Court heard that Kieron Myatt of Rose Terrace, Stalybridge, was working at Decades Nightclub when he dumped bags of rubbish on the pavement outside the premises on Market Street on 25 March 2025.

The incident was picked up by a Tameside Council CCTV control operator who notified the council’s waste enforcement team.

On 12 May 2025, Mr Myatt attended an interview under caution and he admitted the offence. He was offered the opportunity to pay a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) but he did not pay the fine, despite reminders being sent.  

Mr Myatt was then summonsed to appear at Tameside Magistrates’ Court on 8 January 2026, but he failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The case was heard by Tameside Magistrates Court on 24 July 2026.

Mr Myatt entered a guilty plea. He told the court he had quit his job at Decades, as placing the waste on the pavement had been done under instructions from his manager. He also said he had changed address and had not received the FPN, the reminders, nor the court summons.  But, he said, once he was made aware of the warrant, he surrendered to it at Ashton Police Station.

Magistrates fined him £100 and ordered him to pay a £40 victim surcharge and £100 towards prosecution costs.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods Cllr Laura Boyle said: “I know how much flytipping concerns our community – there is no excuse for it and everyone has a duty to dispose of waste responsibly.

“We will always take enforcement action where we have evidence against offenders. In this case, I want to thank our CCTV team for their vigilance in spotting the offence as it happened and reporting it to our waste enforcement team who investigated further.

“For the last two years our officers have taken more enforcement action against flytippers than in any other authority in the north west, reflecting their hard work and dedication to investigating flytipping and holding the offenders to account.

“There is always more work to do and I thank everyone who works with us to tackle this and look after a local areas and town centres.”
