Tributes have been paid to former Denton South councillor Alderwoman Margaret Downs, who has sadly passed away.
Speaking in her memory at the meeting, Civic Mayor Cllr Mike Glover said: “Margaret was a well known and highly regarded campaigning, community councillor. She will be greatly missed and I know you will all join me in extended sympathy to all of her family.”
She had herself served as Mayor in 2003-2004 and became an Alderman upon her retirement in 2017.
Denton MP Andrew Gwynne added that he was very so sad to hear of her passing.
Tributes were also paid at the meeting to Commander (SCC) Janet Evans MBE DL RNR and deputy lieutenant of Greater Manchester.
Born in Ashton, she was a valued and active part of the Lieutenancy and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her, especially her colleagues and friends from the Lieutenancy Tameside District Committee.
Cllr Glover said she would be remembered particularly for her youth work.
A one-minute silence was held at the meeting in memory of both women.
