A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs or alcohol after crashing a car in Denton on Saturday.
Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Windmill Lane, GMP Tameside North said on Facebook.
Witnesses told officers that the red Nissan Micra had overtaken other vehicles at speed before colliding with a tree.
The driver ran off on foot but was tracked down nearby by police, who arrested him.
Sgt Luke Summerfield added in a statement just after 9pm on Saturday evening: “After a brief kick off with us in the back of the van, the driver in his thirties agreed to be checked over by our colleagues at North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).
“He is now on the way to custody to undertake the full evidential procedure.”
