Local mental health charity seeks new Trustee

The Anthony Seddon Fund, a multi award‑winning independent mental health charity in Ashton‑under‑Lyne, is appealing for new trustees to help guide its next decade of growth and support for the Tameside community.

The charity, founded in 2014 in memory of Anthony Seddon, provides peer‑support groups, activities and a welcoming drop‑in space for people living with mental health challenges, as well as their families and carers. Its centre in Ashton under Lyne has become a well‑known hub for those seeking connection, understanding and practical support. With demand for its services rising, the organisation is strengthening its board to help steer its work in the years ahead.

Role of the trustee

New trustees will join a passionate team working to improve mental health support, amplify the voices of people with lived experience and bring hope to those who need it most. Trustees are responsible for helping to shape strategy, overseeing how services are delivered, and ensuring the charity remains focused on its mission and financially sustainable. The board works closely with the Chair and CEO, who provide structured induction and ongoing support to every trustee.

Who they are looking for

While previous trustee experience is not essential, the charity is particularly interested in hearing from people with skills in HR or operations. They are keen to attract candidates who believe in building a kinder, more connected world and who can bring leadership, compassion and fresh perspectives to the board.

Training, support and impact

All trustees receive an induction tailored to their role, access to ongoing training and development, and regular support from senior leaders. Joining the board offers the opportunity to influence local mental health provision, help sustain a much‑needed community space and contribute to suicide prevention and wellbeing initiatives across Tameside and Greater Manchester. One recent call for trustees described the role as a chance to “make a real and lasting difference” by ensuring the charity’s work stays closely aligned with what local people most need.

How to express interest

Prospective trustees are invited to submit a short expression of interest explaining why they wish to join the board and outlining the skills or experience they can offer. Those interested can contact the Trustee Board via email at TrusteeBoard@tasfund.org.uk or by telephone on 0161 376 4439 for further information on the recruitment process.
