Have your say on plans for the A560 in Hattersley

Residents and road users are being invited to share their views on plans to improve the A560 in Hattersley.

Tameside Council is launching a public consultation on 17 August 2026 to gather feedback on ideas for a series of "Streets for All" improvements between Hattersley Roundabout and Green Lane, Gee Cross.

The plans aim to make it safer and easier for people to get around the area and the proposed improvements include:

• Wider footpaths
• Resurfaced roads and footpaths
• Improved pedestrian crossings
• Safer junctions
• Better bus stops
• New separated cycle lanes

The scheme would improve links to local shops, services and the recently upgraded railway station. It would also help people who walk, wheel, cycle, use public transport or drive.

The consultation will run from Monday 17 August 2026 to Friday 18 September 2026.

As well as taking part online, residents can speak to the project team and find out more about the proposals at three public drop-in events during the consultation period:

• Small Hall, The Hub, Stockport Road, Hattersley, SK14 6NT – Monday 24 August– 13:00-15:45
• Active Ken Ward, Hattersley Road East, SK14 3NL – Wednesday 2 September– 17:00-20:00
• Active Ken Ward, Hattersley Road East, SK14 3NL - Saturday 12 September– 10:00-14:00

The project is currently part of a funding bid and funding has not yet been secured. If funding is approved, work is expected to start in summer 2027 and would take around 12 months to complete.

Councillor Stephen Homer, Tameside Council Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity, said: "We're committed to creating streets that are safer, more accessible and better connected for everyone. These proposals have the potential to transform an important route through Hattersley by improving access to local services and public transport, while making it easier and more attractive for people to walk, wheel and cycle.”

"The designs are still at a concept stage and we want to hear from the people who know the area best. Your feedback will help us develop a scheme that works for residents, businesses and all those who use the A560."

Feedback from the consultation will help shape the plans before any final decisions are made.
