To help tackle health inequalities, Denton Primary Care Network (PCN), on behalf of GP practices in Denton and Droylsden, recently partnered with The Veterans Food Company.
They originally started working with the local Chinese community in Droylsden to deliver “Chinese Low-Fat Cookery Sessions with Health Advice” and now the courses have been extended. Food is Mood is an 8 session cooking course combining cooking, food hygiene, and potential work experience, along with a good dose of fun and team building in the kitchen.
Developed in direct response to community feedback, these cookery sessions run alongside similar programmes designed to reduce social isolation among men. Feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive, and the PCN hopes to continue and expand these valuable initiatives.
Chef Noel Goulding from the Veterans Food Company has been offering support to local men who have recently lost their partners. During a visit to Victoria Park Community Centre in Denton, a group enjoyed a hands-on lesson cooking stew and dumplings, a warm, nourishing activity bringing people together through food and friendship.
