Watson finishes season in style

Glossop cycling star Ben Watson raced to a silver medal on Thursday in this year's UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Zurich.

The 35-year-old held off stiff competition to secure a place on the podium in the Men's C3 Road Race, finishing with an impressive time of 1 hour 55 minutes and 37 seconds.

Picking up the gold was fellow GB cyclist Finlay Graham, while the bronze went to Canadian Alexandre Hayward.

"Nice to finish the season off on the podium after lots of near misses," Watson told his Instagram followers after the race.

"Special thanks to everyone who has helped me this season and everyone at British Cycling who enables us to perform at such a high level."

This comes after the disappointment of Tuesday's Men's C3 Individual Time Trial in which Watson came agonisingly close to a podium position.

The two time Paralympic gold medallist was just 6.5 seconds away from a podium position and 11 seconds away from gold, in a race which he described as 'one of his best ever flat Time Trials'.
