Celtic stunned at the death

Stalybridge Celtic clawed a draw from the jaws of victory on Tuesday night, squandering a two-goal lead to share the points with 1874 Northwich.

The visitors were cruising at Townfield, but were stunned by a last gasp brace from new signing James Simms.

Celtic took the lead after just 15 minutes, with the referee pointing to the spot following a foul on Jack Irlam, who made no mistake from 12 yards.

Their advantage was then doubled just eight minutes into the second half, with Ruben Jerome heading home from close range to put his side in control.

But when Simms halved the deficit with two minutes on the clock, the tide began to turn.

And the hosts’ pressure finally told deep into stoppage time, with Simms netting his second to silence the visiting supporters.

The draw means Jon Macken’s side slip to 13th in the NPL West table, having won just one of their last six league matches.
