Tameside hosts annual Tag Rugby Competition

In October, 36 school teams from across Tameside took part in the annual Tag Rugby Competition organised by Tameside School Sports Partnership.

Ashton RUFC, Aldwinians RUFC and Dukinfield RUFC all supported and hosted heats that would lead to the finals the following week, hosted by Dukinfield RUFC.

At the finals, 16 of the best teams competed against each other to become group winners, with the finals being battled out between Our Ladys RC Mount Carmel Ashton-Under-Lyne, St Christophers RC Ashton-Under-Lyne, Buckton Vale Primary Stalybridge and St Johns in Dukinfield.

Tense and extremely close semi finals led to a highly competitive St Johns and Buckton Vale final with St Johns becoming eventual winners.

Emma Toone, Partnership Development Manager at Tameside School Sports Partnership said

'We have had an amazing competition this year, with a very high standard of performance from all schools.

The local rugby clubs are wanting to promote rugby as much as possible and its a great sport to be involved with.

By the clubs hosting the events we hope that this will increase the popularity of rugby union as we can see our pupils definitely have the skills.

Well done to all teams on the great standard and play and thanks to our local rugby clubs.'
