Shootout success for Glossop North End Community Club

Glossop North End Community Club retained the Derbyshire Junior North Cup last Tuesday after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Hathersage FC, following a thrilling 2–2 draw in front of 295 spectators at Surrey Street.

Hathersage struck first on 20 minutes, taking advantage of a mix‑up at the back, but Glossop responded well and grew into the contest.

Their pressure told just before half-time when Taylor James equalised on 43 minutes, cleverly lobbing the goalkeeper after a well‑delivered assist from Callum Cheetham.

Earlier in the first half, Brandon Wood went close for The Blues, firing narrowly past the post after good work down the flank from Connor Taylor‑Scowcroft, who was unlucky not to make contact.

The second half was played at a high tempo, with both sides pushing for control but Glossop dominating the game and creating a number of chances.

Glossop edged ahead on 83 minutes when Calum Ramsay showed bravery and determination to finish from close range, sparking celebrations among the majority‑Glossop crowd.

However, Hathersage responded late to force the match into a penalty shootout.

Substitute Jo Jo Mills made an immediate impact after coming on, seeing one effort cleared off the line before striking the post in the closing stages, as Glossop pushed hard for a winning goal.

Charlie Goddard impressed throughout, particularly in wide areas, while Alex Elliott used his experience effectively, dropping into midfield to help settle the game during key periods.

Captain Xavier Glanfield led by example, producing a strong and composed performance and organising The Blues well under pressure.

In the shootout, Glossop were clinical. Elliott, Glanfield and Ramsay all converted confidently, while Hathersage missed twice.

That left Cheetham to step up and seal victory, firing home the decisive penalty to secure the trophy.

For Cheetham, who has now played over 50 matches for the club across open‑age football, it was a fitting moment to decide the final.

On a cold and windy evening, Glossop not only retained the Derbyshire Junior North Cup back‑to‑back, but also played their part in delivering an entertaining and competitive final for everyone in attendance.
