GTB makes gravel bike debut in Girona

After hinting about spending more time on her bike this year, Georgia Taylor-Brown did just that by taking part in the gruelling Santa Vall 2025.

The Droylsden triathlete, who has a complete set of Olympic medals from the Tokyo and Paris Games, used Valentine’s weekend to push herself through the pain barrier across 200km of Spanish countryside.

The unmarked routes took in a mixture of public roads and dirt tracks, with GTB finishing a respectable 21st on the opening 80km circuit and 16th on the following day’s 115km race.

Both began and ended in the Catalonian village of Sant Gregori, just outside Girona.

“Thought I signed up to a couple nice days out on the trails, taking in the scenery, having some good chats,” said Taylor-Brown. “Turns out I signed up to two days of completely savage gravel racing.

“80k on day one and 115km on day two, lots of climbs, lots of sprints, rocks, puddles, mud, huge holes!

“I hung on to the girls for as long as I could until I completely popped!

“These girls are so strong and now I want to sign up to more so I can play with them for a bit longer next time so much fun.”
