Mass brawl follows Droylsden's FA Vase triumph

An investigation has been launched after a mass brawl broke out following Droylsden FC's FA Vase win at Bilston Town.

The Bloods reached the quarter-final of the competition for the first time in their history after a 2-0 win in the West Midlands, an achievement which has been overshadowed by controversy.

After Saturday’s meeting, several videos of the incident have circulated online, with one appearing to show a Bilston Town player lashing out at spectators before being dragged to the ground.

A separate video shows what reports state is a coach being chased across the pitch before throwing a punch at a non-player.

Following the altercation, West Midlands Police have confirmed an investigation is underway:

"We're investigating after a violent disorder at Bilston Town Football Club on Queen Street yesterday. We were called to reports of people being attacked at around 5pm. No arrests have yet been made.

"We are working to establish the full facts and will be contacting the victims to get full statements, and will be reviewing mobile phone and CCTV footage.

Anyone with information has been asked to get in touch with us on 101, quoting 20/139817/26."

Bilston Town have since taken to X to share their side of the story:

“We understand that there is a video or videos shared by people from the game today. We would like to state that this is not a fair reflection of the game or day as a whole.

“As a club we are in the process of investigating all footage from today’s game. We would like to thank the supporters of Droylsden for their cooperation.”

Droylsden are yet to make a public statement, and told the Reporter when approached:

“The club will not be making a comment at this moment in time.”

Meanwhile Dave Pace’s side are now two wins from a place at Wembley, thanks to a brace from the in-form Nellson Van, and will discover their quarter-final opponents on Monday afternoon.
