This is the moment, and City know it.
There are times in a season when everything narrows. No noise. No distraction. Just outcomes. Manchester City have arrived at that point.
Starting with the women because they are setting the tone.
A 0-3 win at Old Trafford in a derby is one thing. Doing it with that level of control is something else. There was no panic, no sense of occasion getting in the way. They went there like a side that knew exactly what the job was. And did it.
Miedema’s goals will get the headlines, and rightly so, but the bigger picture was the authority. The way they managed the game. The way they imposed themselves.
That is what champions do. Not every win needs to be dramatic. In fact, the best ones rarely are. This was calm, composed, and convincing. Five points now separate them from the title. Three games to go. It is there for the girls in blue, now all they have to do is take it.
And on last weekend’s evidence, you would back them to do exactly that.
Now to the Boys in Blue. International breaks always feel like a pause, but they are not. They are a reset. Players go away, play different football, and come back either sharper or searching.
Doku looks like he has his edge again. Positive, direct, willing to take people on. That matters in tight games. Nunes getting minutes is important. Rhythm is everything at this stage of the run in.
Let’s hope John Stones’ injury isn’t too concerning and I think I speak for every blue and hope that Phil Foden comes back fired up with a point to prove.
Now the focus turns quickly to Liverpool and another FA Cup quarter final.
And let’s be clear about one thing. This is not a team City fear. Not because Liverpool are not good. They are. They are aggressive, they play with intensity, and under Slot they have shown they can be a serious side, when they want to be.
But it was only in February that the blues went to Anfield and won. Properly!
That matters. Not for sentiment, but for reference. City know they can handle this version of Liverpool. They have already done it.
The question now is simple. Can we do it again?
These games are not about overthinking. Liverpool will try and turn it into a high tempo contest. They will press, they will force moments, they will look to create chaos. City must resist that.
When the blues control a game, they control everything. Tempo, space, decisions. That is where they are strongest. The challenge is not technical. It is mental.
Stay in the game. Stay disciplined. Take your moments. Because they will come.
And if City do that, Wembley comes into view yet again.
No one inside that dressing room will say it publicly, but they all know. Win this and you are one step away. One good performance from another final.
The women have put themselves on the brink of something big. Calm, controlled, professional.
Now it is the men’s turn. No noise. No excuses. Just get it done blues.
