Aces break Witches spell

Ipswich were blown away by a powerful Belle Vue offensive as the BikeRight Aces stormed to an emphatic 55-35 victory at the National Speedway Stadium on Monday night.

It was touch and go in the opening races of the night, with the TruPlant Witches firing on all cylinders and even taking an early lead over their hosts after three races.

But in true Mancunian fashion, the home side refused to back down from their challenge and dug deep to reassert their dominance over proceedings.

By the half-way stage things were tied at 24 apiece, before a string of 5-1s opened a 12-point lead for the BikeRight Aces which only increased before they finished the job.

Newly appointed No.1 Dan Bewley proved he belonged at the top of the Belle Vue pecking order, bagging a full 15-point maximum from five flawless rides.

Bewley said: “I’m delighted with how tonight went. I think it was my first full maximum of the season, but I’m glad we’re getting back to racing at home.

“Having the stadium full of fans again, being back in the Peter Craven Suite for the press conference is just another step on the road to normality.

“We were mega disappointed to lose against Wolves last week and this result was just what we needed, especially at this point in the season.

“A couple of the boys got off to a slow start, but we all came on strong in the end. I think everyone was involved in at least one 5-1 situation which is always great to see.

“We’ve just got to keep this going now. We’ve got one foot in the Play Offs and a few more results like this one will absolutely cement that for us.”

The Premiership kicks it into high gear in August in Manchester, with the BikeRight Aces next in action on August 9 when the Peterborough Panthers return to the National Speedway Stadium.

Tickets for these and all 2021 fixtures are now available, unrestricted, online at bellevue-speedway.com and we would encourage all our supporters to buy online where possible.
