The Radclyffe School has been crowned champion at the Oldham Schools Annual Chess Competition after an outstanding unbeaten performance on Friday last week.
The competition, hosted by North Chadderton School, brought together teams from 10 schools across the borough, with The Radclyffe School represented by Year 11 students Yamin and Sayem, Year 9 student Hamza and Year 8 student Ethan.
The team delivered a remarkable display throughout the tournament, winning all nine of their matches and finishing almost 10 points clear of second place.
Across the entire competition, they lost just five individual games. This success comes shortly after the school’s own internal chess tournament for students and staff, where Sayem also came out on top.
Individual success also followed, with Yamin crowned Board 1 Champion after winning all nine of his games, while Sayem was named Board 2 Champion after securing eight wins from nine. Ethan and Hamza were also impressed, each winning seven of their nine matches.
Dominic Franklin, maths teacher and chess team lead, said: "I was so proud of the boys and their achievements.”
“They were fantastic throughout the day, and their behaviour and sportsmanship were exemplary."
The school also thanked North Chadderton School for hosting the event and all participating schools for contributing to a fantastic day of competition and excellent games.
