Section 60 powers brought in after triple stabbing in Oldham

Section 60 in place now.

Three men are in hospital with injuries from separate incidents with one arrest made following a night of violence in Oldham.

A Section 60 order has been imposed in a large part of Chadderton and Oldham until 6.45pm tonight (Feb 13) after the serious attacks which took place within just 90 minutes.

The first incident occurred in the Butler Green area of Chadderton at around 5.50pm.

The victim, a 26-year-old man, is in hospital receiving treatment for potentially life changing injuries. No arrests have been made, and the scene has been closed.

The second occurred at a retail car park on Chadderton Way just before 7.30pm. The victim, a 21-year-old man, is in hospital being treated for a stab wound to the leg and to the head. These injuries are not thought to be life changing or threatening currently.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of S18 assault and violent disorder and remains in police custody.
The car park remains closed whilst enquiries take place.

The third incident, just after 7.30pm on Featherstall Road North left another man with stab wounds which are being treated in hospital.  He is in a stable condition, but the injury level hasn’t been established. No arrests have been made, but the scene remains in place.

The full circumstances of each are yet to be established, and at this time police said they cannot say whether these incidents are linked to one another or not.

Detective Sergeant Jennifer O’Brien from Oldham CID said; “Our investigations have begun into what led to all of these serious assaults in such a short space of time and locality, and those living in the local area should expect to see an increased presence whilst we conduct enquiries.

“I understand that there will be fear amongst the community due to the volume of incidents and their nature, and whilst we haven’t yet established if these are linked, we do believe them to be targeted.

“We are working at pace to identify suspects across all of these incidents, and support the young men in hospital with injuries.

“Knife crime has no place within Oldham, or Greater Manchester, and our neighbourhood teams alongside the dedicated knife crime team which operates force wide, Op Venture, continue to make many arrests, seizures and proactively disrupt those who wish to commit offences with weapons.

“We are appealing for any information which could help us piece together all of tonight’s events or lead us to those responsible. You can contact us by calling 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.”
