Local neighbourhood officers are continuing to tackle criminality across Derker and the surrounding areas thanks to the existing Operation Vulcan partnership.
Just over a year ago, Operation Vulcan was launched in the area resulting in more than 250 arrests, thousands of pounds worth of drugs recovered, more than 200 vehicles seized, and dozens of deadly weapons taken off the streets.
The ongoing partnership – which consists of local officers, the council, charity groups, volunteers, and more – is seeking to continue to build on the foundations the problem-solving Vulcan team has launched for the future.
Since January, the neighbourhood team has made 23 arrests for offences including drug dealing, possession of offensive weapons and shoplifting, securing charges, and putting in place further orders to punish criminals.
In that time, they have also shut down three cannabis farms, recovering more than 200 plants, while also seizing 30 cars for various offences, including no insurance and dangerous driving.
Proactive work has also seen officers conduct 95 vehicles and person searches during standard patrols and reactive stops.
In addition to the enforcement work, officers are continuing to engage with the community as they have done since the inception of Vulcan last year and maintain the close relationships with the area that the team has built.
This includes drop-ins with local residents, engagement with schools and businesses, and ongoing communication with the council.
Sergeant Gabriella Evans, from GMP’s Oldham district, said: “The Vulcan partnership is continuing to flourish within the Derker area and we are intent on helping those within the area as we move into the ‘hold’ phase of the Clear, Hold, Build strategy.
“Our local neighbourhood team has conducted so much good work this year and is something that we will continue to do so in the weeks and months to come. From proactive days of action to regular hotspot patrols and vital community engagement, our teams will continue to tackle all forms of criminality.
“I would urge anyone within the community with any issues to get in touch with us, so we can help in any way we can.”
