Pensioner in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car

A woman in her 70s is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Oldham yesterday.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for witnesses after the pensioner was seriously injured on Manchester Street at around 10:50am. 

It is believed the vehicle – a brown-coloured Vauxhall Corsa –  travelled along King Street, turned onto Manchester Street where it collided with the woman who was crossing the road. 

The victim was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition with serious injuries. 

The driver, a 24-year-old woman, stopped at the scene and was later arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving. 

She was interviewed and has been released on bail.
