Communities invited to support Pink Chai campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer

Can you host a pink chai event?

With Breast Cancer Awareness Month just weeks away, people across Oldham and beyond are being encouraged to host a Pink Chai gathering to raise awareness of the disease.

Pink Chai CIC is inviting groups, businesses, schools, places of worship and local community centres to host a pink tea event to break the stigma and silence around breast cancer, raise awareness of the signs and symptoms, encourage early detection and help save lives.

One conversation could encourage a mother, sister, wife, daughter, friend or colleague to check herself, attend screening or seek medical advice.

Pink Chai CIC can provide breast health information materials and a box of pink tea to support the gathering.

Chair of Pink Chai CIC, Dr Musharraf Hussain, said: “We want to raise awareness, tackle stigma and encourage early detection of breast cancer so that it can save someone’s life.

“We are also embarking on an ambitious programme to train female members of our communities to become breast health champions so that they can take the message into homes and family gatherings. Join us and let’s work together for this important cause.”

The event is open to everyone especially women from the south Asian community as they are statistically below average for breast cancer screening tests.

Anyone interested in hosting the event should confirm their planned dates to Muzahid Khan, MBE DL, Pink Chai CIC muzahid@pinkchai.org.
