Oldham's heroes of the hills have received a £5,000 cheque from the Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund.
The presentation was made by the Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Ian Sandiford and his wife Janet at Oldham Mountain Rescue Team headquarters at Greenfield.
Rob Tortoishell, OMRT Team Leader, said: “I am delighted to receive these funds on behalf of the team. Grants, such as the one received from The Duchy Fund, together with the support from the local community, are essential in keeping the team operational.”
The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund is a charity set up with the consent of The Queen to benefit causes primarily within the County Palatine.
The Duchy Fund now covers the Counties of Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. Since 1399, the title of Duke of Lancaster has been held by the reigning Sovereign, Her Majesty The Queen.
The £5,000 grant is the maximum amount that can be allocated in one amount by The Duchy Fund. The funds received will be used to partially fund the purchase of essential new equipment.
