Oldham has welcomed significant new investment through the Government’s Pride in Place programme, which will deliver long-term funding to strengthen communities and revitalise local areas.
The Alt neighbourhood has been named as one of the areas to benefit from up to £20million over the next decade, providing a long-term commitment to empower communities to put plans together that can genuinely rebuild and transform their neighbourhoods.
The council is dedicated to working alongside residents, businesses, community groups and voluntary organisations to build stronger communities, helping people to feel proud of their area and bringing local people into the decisions that shape their neighbourhood.
Alongside this, there is also £1.5m of funding from the Pride in Place Impact Fund to create more vibrant, inclusive town centre spaces, enhance improvements to green areas and invest in community facilities that give residents greater control over the spaces that matter to them.
The investment will be overseen locally through new Neighbourhood Boards, which will be made up of local residents, elected members, council officers and community and business stakeholders.
Councillor Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said: "This investment is a huge vote of confidence in Oldham and our communities. By putting the deciding power in the hands of local people, projects will be shaped by those who know our borough best - our residents and communities.
"By further investing in both our high streets and our neighbourhoods, we can create places that people are proud to call home, support small businesses to thrive, and give residents greater control over the future of their area. Oldham is on an ambitious transformation journey, and this funding means we can accelerate our plans together with our communities."
